Los Angeles Motor Show 2016

San Diego's Zelectric has become well known for electrifying iconic Volkswagens in the form of its ZelectricBug and ZelectricBus. Now it's turned its attention to a high-performance electric Porsche 911 prototype and a beautiful cherry red electric Karmann Ghia prototype.

Beyond fast, flashy cars, Southern California is home to some highly capable off-road-ready pickup trucks and SUVs. This year's LA Auto Show highlighted that side nearly as well as it highlighted flashy cars, and we have the photos to prove it.

With growing sales and a lineup led by the Outback, the only thing missing from the Subaru stable is a big four-wheel drive. Launched in Los Angeles, the Viziv-7 gives an idea what that might look like.

Having launched the Giulia to strong reviews last year, Alfa Romeo has taken the next step in its revival with its first ever four-wheel drive. The Stelvio is a crucial car, going head to head with the popular Porsche Macan and Mercedes GLC.

Hyundai has added another string to the bow of its forward-thinking IONIQ range of cars. Joining the hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric IONIQ models is a conceptual autonomous model, with Hyundai designing the self-driving systems to be "as simple as possible."

Back in 2014, Chevrolet unveiled the Colorado ZR2 Concept. It looked production ready, and company execs said they'd gauge interest and think about building it. It would appear the public has spoken, because Chevy has pulled through and unveiled the production ZR2 after two years of thinking.

Having pulled back the curtain on the CX-9 at the Los Angeles Motor Show last year, Mazda has used this year's show to unveil another four-wheel drive. Although it's smaller than the CX-9, Mazda has given the new CX-5 the same dashing good looks and sumptuous cabin.

​Ford was one of the first to get on board the compact four-wheel bandwagon, but its first attempt at the wasn't successful. It wasn't pretty on the outside and felt cheap on the inside, especially compared to excellent cars like the Mazda CX-3. Finally, Ford has given the EcoSport a refresh.

The 2016 Paris Motor Show will be remembered as the time big car manufacturers flicked the switch and committed to electric mobility. Now, Jaguar has decided to get in on the act with the I-Pace Concept.

Even though the Jeep Renegade is aimed at city drivers, it can be specced with a Trailhawk package, but for some the knowledge their little car can tackle the Rubicon won't be enough. Those people are now catered for thanks to new versions of the Renegade to be launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
