Swiss automotive design shop Rinspeed has readied a forward-focused vehicle concept for next month’s CES. The modular Rinspeed MetroSnap has the ability to become a corner store, a local postal office or really anything its owners might care to imagine.

​Almost a year ago, Swiss automaker Rinspeed unveiled its autonomous Snap electric mobility system at the CES trade show in Las Vegas. At 2019's CES, taking place in January, the next chapter in the rather clever project will be revealed – the smaller and more tech-laden microSNAP.

​​Few vehicle concepts get the juices flowing like those from Rinspeed. The Swiss automaker has now shared a new details about its latest concept – a two-part electric vehicle designed to be recycled and upgraded to keep pace with fast-moving automotive technologies.​

Rinspeed concept cars are the highlights of the auto shows with their often challenging ideas, though the latest Rinspeed Snap Concept, set to be shown at CES 2018, doesn't look much different to at least four different General Motors concepts dating back 15 years.

With the Oasis concept, Rinspeed attempts to reestablish itself as the world's most out-there automotive visionary, throwing the kitchen sink in and reinventing the car as an all-in-one home and garden, detail-oriented personal assistant, amateur biographer, entrepreneur and mobile office.

Rinspeed has been busy with autonomous driving recently, showing off its vision for a driverless world with creations like the Etos and XchangeE. Come CES 2017, those cars will have a new stablemate, with the launch of the Oasis concept.

This year Swiss automotive think tank abandons its longstanding convention of debuting a creative concept at the Geneva Motor Show, instead using the Consumer Electronics Show for its debut. The Etos concept adds a little consumer electronic tech to Rinspeed's way-beyond-the-box thinking.

In 2016, Rinspeed will switch venues from the Geneva Motor Show and reveal a drone-docking autonomous car at the Consumer Electronics Show. The car is called Ʃtos, and it's as interesting and thought-provoking as it is weird and overdesigned.

The Rinspeed autonomous vehicle concept, dubbed Budii, has been created as a platform to showcase the latest in self-driving vehicle technology. Built on a revamped BMW i3 chassis, Budii will be unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Most autonomous cars are rough, experimental versions of current models, with all kinds of added sensor hardware. The recent Geneva Motor Show flipped the autonomous vehicle inside out, showcasing several futuristic design studies that peeked inside the autonomous car cabin of the future.
