South African researchers found new evidence supporting the hypothesis that Earth was struck by an asteroid 12,800 years ago, causing global cooling.

Ledumahadi mafube was the world's largest land animal when it existed almost 200 million years ago. Despite this fact, none of the dinosaur's fossilized remains were discovered until relatively recently, and it has only now been scientifically classified.

Archaeologists have uncovered what may be the oldest human-made drawings ever found. Discovered in a cave in South Africa, the cross-hatch pattern was drawn in red ochre and found to date back over 70,000 years, making the image more than 30,000 years older than the previous reigning champion.

​​Since the 1930s, questions have remained over whether or not a dog-sized pre-mammalian reptile called Euchambersia was venomous. Researchers are now claiming to have put an end to the debate, with new CT scans revealing it did in fact have anatomical features designed for venom production. ​
