The electric vehicle world speed record has remained steady since the Venturi Buckeye Bullet 2.5 electric streamliner set a 307.7-mph (495 km/h) mark in 2010. That changed on Monday, when the VBB-3 sped to a new electric vehicle record just over 341.4 mph (549.4 km/h).

Rain has stopped Venturi from taking the VBB-3 to the max in the past, but the team hasn't given up its dream of taking out the electric land speed record. With that goal in mind the French team will be back at Bonneville in September.

Wet conditions and bad weather shut down Bonneville Speed Week for the second year in a row this summer, and they didn't much help Venturi and Ohio State, but the team battled through and set a new category electric world record of 240.320 mph (386.757 km/h).

Venturi Antarctica, a prototype electric vehicle designed to tackle the harsh climes of Antarctica recently completed its first test drive in the Southern Alps. The joystick-controlled prototype seats 5 and can reach a top speed of 25 km/h (15mph) on snow tracks and 45 km/h (27 mph) on wheels.
