There have been many times when I've had to resort to resting my head against clothing or bags when traveling, with a sore neck the usual result. Problems like that could be a thing of the past with Tumi's Patrol Travel Puffer Jacket, which transforms into a pillow when you stuff it into a hidden pouch in the collar.
The 45 g (1.6 oz) water-resistant nylon jacket has a polyester lining and is filled with down to keep you warm as you go and comfy when you sleep. It also has hidden pockets on the inside and front double-entry pockets with exposed zippers, with a patent-pending ID lock technology that supposedly protects your credit card, passport, and other personal information from the grubby paws of thieves wielding electronic data reading devices.
Converting it into a pillow could hardly be simpler: take the jacket off, roll it towards the collar, compress it into the pouch, and zip it up ready to snooze on. Tumi isn't the first to strike upon this idea, however. Burton used to sell a Sleeper Hoodie that integrated an inflatable pillow into the hood area, while the Xip3 transformable jacket that quickly morphs into a backpack or pillow is still around.
Tumi's offering comes in five men's sizes and four colors (red, blue, grey, black). The price is normally US$220, but the red and grey versions are on sale for $155 at the time of writing.
