Didyou know that 3D printing generates a lot of plastic waste? This mayseem odd at first, but every enthusiast knows the amount of plasticthat gets wasted before any successful printing is done.

Thegood news is that this waste can be recycled and turned into newprinted objects. The plastics used in 3D printing, in fact, can be melteddown and re-extruded without a significant loss of material.

Thisis what Felfil Evo domestic filament extruder is for. Created by Felfil, anItalian startup, it allows users to produce new filament at home andthen use it for subsequent printings, starting from chopped wrongprints, plastic raw materials or industrial pellet.

The FelfilEvo works with different types of plastics, so it can be used torecycle as well as to test new polymers. Traditional materials (ABS,PLA, HIPS, TPU, PETG…) are supported, but creative users are freeto try personalized new filament made of whatever other plastic andcolor they want. For example, Felfil published avideo on its YouTube channel to show how to make a particularfilament from scratch that smells like coffee and has its color, using PLA and coffee beans.

Coffee-Based 3D Printing Filament with PLA: extrusion with Felfil Evo filament extruder

Theextruder made by Felfil is completely open source (all the sourcefiles can bedownloaded on its website) and its designed to fit on any desktop. Moreover, itis designed to be used by everyone, whether 3D print expert orbeginner. With the Felfil Evo, it is possible to make filament in two different diameters – 1.75mm and 2.85mm – just by changing the extrusionnozzle.
