Apple announced the Apple Watch Nike+ edition at its annual keynote in September and it's slated to hit shelves on Friday, October 28. What can we expect from this running-centric smartwatch?
Like the Apple Watch Series 2, the Nike+ edition boasts built-in GPS, heart rate monitor, swim-proof water resistance up to 50 meters and an incredibly bright (1,000 nits max) display, all powered by a capable dual-core processor and watchOS 3.
Unique to this flagship are the Nike Sport band (a perforated version of the Apple Watch Sport band) and two exclusive Nike-branded customizable watch faces. Additionally, the Nike+ Run Club app comes pre-installed.
If you're considering an Apple Watch to be primarily used as a fitness tracker, the Nike+ edition could be the one to get, especially if you like the idea of a synthetic rubber band that's perforated for breathability. However, there's no need to fret if you've already copped the Series 2. You can still download the free Nike+ Run Club app, which tracks and stores your personal running history, for an almost identical experience.
Note that Apple Watches do not include an altimeter, so if tracking altitude is an important part of your running, the Nike+ edition won't free you from running with your phone.
Like other Apple Watches, the Nike+ edition will be available in two watch face sizes. The 38-millimeter version starts at US$369 and the 42-millimeter version starts at $399. Color combinations are Black/Volt (neon green), Black/Cool Gray, Silver/Volt and Silver/White.
