Audi has announced the Q1 compact SUV will join its Q series in 2016. The Q1 will slot in below the Q3 as Audi's entry-level SUV and is part of the company's efforts to up its model line-up from 49 to more than 60 models by 2020.

Audi has not yet revealed much in the way of detail, only releasing the above illustration and stating that the Q1 would be based on the Volkswagen Group's flexible Modular Transverse Matrix (Modularer Querbaukasten or MQB) platform, which is currently found in the Audi A3 and VW Golf.

"The Audi Q1 is part of our broad-based SUV strategy," says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. "It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end."

The Q1 will be produced at the company's Ingolstadt plant from 2016.

Make this the size of a Jeep Wrangler, build it out of very light weight materials like carbon fiber, aluminum etc and make it all electric with a 300 mile range and quick charge under 20 min. and you might have something!
Jerry ,this model is the Q1 base model, not the Q10.
