Elliptical bikes may provide a good form of low-impact exercise for people who want to get out and about, but what if you're a new parent with a baby that you don't want to leave at home? Well, that's why Pier Paolo Visconti invented the Elliptical Stroller.

The device consists of two main parts – a baby carriage in the front, and an elliptical drive mechanism in the back. That mechanism folds up and forward when not in use, allowing the Elliptical Stroller to also be used as a regular walk-behind stroller. Dual disc brakes bring it to a stop.

Visconti is currently looking for a manufacturing partner to help take the product to market, and can be contacted via the link at the bottom of the page. He's aiming at a retail price of about US$1,250. If that's a little beyond your budget, he's also patented an elliptical drive mechanism that can be added to most existing strollers, which should hopefully sell for around $150.

The Elliptical Stroller can be seen in action, in the video below. And if skateboarding is more your cup of tea, then you might want to check out the Quinny Longboardstroller.

While the drivetrain is an elliptical motion, the actual motion being performed is that of a stair stepper. This should definitely NOT be called an "Elliptical Stroller", because despite the title of the article, it is not what the name implies at all. Stair Stepper Stroller is much, much more fitting.

Walking works more muscle groups, and doesn't look so awkward...

That's just what babies need, lots of speed supported by a small front wheel. Gonna rattle that little bundle of joy. Shaken baby syndrome isn't still a thing, right?

@Pseudoending thank you for your comment. the full name, as Showed on "Shark Tank" and other publications is elliptical/stepper stroller. For branding purposes and because the full name is too long we decided to name it elliptical stroller as the main propulsion system is elliptical. thank you for your input
@bob walking, does not, in any way shape or form works more muscle groups. thank you for your input.
@Bruce, thank you for your comment. the speed of the stroller is far less than any bicycle (with a seat for babies), jogger stroller etc. there is far less, if any, vibration and therefore the elliptical/stepper stroller is far more safe and smooth than many other baby carriages on the market. Remember that this is a prototype, final version will be cooler, with some changes. thank you!
