The FUMM offers a very interesting take on the basic goal of propping a smartphone in a useful position. Instead of being restricted to only certain devices or angles, its flexible arms and nano suction pads offer a level of versatility not often seen in similar products.
FUMM might seem like a slightly odd name, but it is actually an acronym for Flexible Universal Mobile Mount, which accurately describes the core functionality of the device. It is able to work with almost any phone, which means users won't need to purchase a new stand when they upgrade to something different.
Nano suction pads are used to mount phones to the FUMM, and to mount the stand itself to a table or other location. They are designed to stick to any flat surface such as glass, plastic, metal, and so on.
Essentially, the mount is just two flat suction pads linked together by flexible arms. This allows users to change the angle of the phone and use it either in landscape or portrait mode.
While the design of the FUMM is rather simple, it's actually rather intelligent. Most mounts offer one key functionality, but this one is able to be used in a wider range of positions and locations. Of course, its use is not limited to just smartphones, as GPS units and plenty of other devices with a flat surface can be attached to it as well.
Robert Han, the creator of the FUMM, is seeking funding on Kickstarter. Currently, the device is sitting at a little over US$4,000 of its $35,000 goal. The minimum pledge to receive a FUMM is $29 while the early bird specials last. After that, would-be buyers will need to drop $35 to get their hands on one.
