Gizmag is now New Atlas: Why we've changed our name

Gizmag has a new look and a new name.

Why?

For almost 15 years we've worked hard to keep you up to date with the rise of technology and its impact on our daily lives, and that has led us into new frontiers.

Our first issue featured a ground-breaking 3 megapixel camera, a radical mobile phone-PDA hybrid and a look at life with Apple's revolutionary iPod MP3 player, but these days we're about more than gadgets.

We want to build a publication that stands the test of time.

That publication is New Atlas.

What does New Atlas represent?

The name New Atlas better reflects what we do. An atlas is a collection of maps, and maps are the tools we use to explore and define new frontiers. That's our mission at New Atlas: we want to trace the development of extraordinary ideas that move the world forward in the fields of science, transport, consumer electronics, architecture, and beyond.

What hasn't changed is our approach. You can expect the same independent, considered coverage from our international team of journalists.

As always, if you have feedback, we'd love to hear it. Please email us at feedback@newatlas.com.

Thank you for supporting what we do.

Congratulations and here's to the next 15 years. I very much enjoy the articles you report. Cheers, Frank

Always keen to see renewal, but I must say "New Atlas" seems a much less cool name than Gizmag. Can't follow the rationale for the change. However, whatever you call it, your site is great and I always scan it for interesting tidbits, and OFTEN post links off to friends and family. Good luck with the next 15 years!

I visit this website every day and even though I understand why you changed the name I really don't like it. Gizmag has a ring to it whereas New Atlas sounds like a website for maps and in my opinion isn't catchy at all.

I really liked Gizmag.
I don't get "newatlas."
But I'll still come here.

Great site, awful new name. Not sure why you'd take such a strong brand and re-label it with something so weak. If I came across this name on a google search and didn't know it was you I'd just pass over it. Hope it works out though and you keep going!

Wow, the name "Gizmag" makes me think of new gizmos and new tech. New Atlas makes me think of a cartographer's website. I can tell you now that all them years ago I would not have clicked on "New Atlas". Good luck with the new name but I think you will be stuck with us Gizmag readers you already have, It's gonna be hard growing the mag with a mapmakers handle. Just sayin.

Congrats ! I get that Gizmag is a bit "narrow", but "New Atlas" ??? What's the rationale behind that ?
"New Atlas" sounds a bit like old men in suits and big corporations with no feelings for the average man..., and so is that weird cold blue colour...
Well, it's your choise ! I'll stil drop by.

Keep up the great work. About the only thing I look forward to when I open my mail. It is always a treat to see what new technology is our there. Wish you all fifteen more years.

Okay, what's done is done and as long as the content stays as awesome I guess it's okay......BUT, and it's a big BUT, I'm not happy. Been a GizMag subscriber and lover for quite some time. It's just such a fun name.
I feel the same as if somebody told me BEER was no longer going to be called BEER, but instead it would only be referred to as 'WET AND HAPPY'. I could never tell my wife I'm going to run out and get 'WET AND HAPPY'!
R.I.P. GizMag. We loved you well. Long live New Atlas (even though it's a stupid name).
