It wasn't all that long ago that OLED TVs maxed out at 11 inches and cost around US$4,500. These days the screen sizes have grown considerably, but the prices are still up there. A case in point is LG's flagship 77-inch "Picture-on-Wall" OLED set that impressed at CES in January and is now available in the US.
LG took out the 2017 CES Best of Innovation Award with its 77-inch OLED TV, and it's not hard to see how it got its "wallpaper" moniker. Measuring just 0.23 in (5.8 mm) thick and weighing 27.1 lb (12.3 kg), the unit is designed to be mounted flush on the wall using magnetic brackets. LG doesn't even offer a stand, so wall mounting is the only option.
The included 4.2 channel speaker bar with Dolby Atmos can be positioned on a shelf or furniture, but is also designed to be mounted on the wall below the TV. It also serves as the AV controller for the TV and houses all the connection ports, so even though a ribbon cable for connecting the sound bar to the TV is included, you may want to factor in the cost of some plastering work if you want that faultlessly clean look.
In terms of picture quality, the TV packs 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, Active HDR with Dolby Vision and the vibrant colors and infinite contrast ratio that OLED technology delivers. Smart TV functions are provided through LG's webOS 3.5 platform, with a Magic Remote with natural voice recognition also included.
The Signature OLED TV Picture-on-Wall W7 Series is available now in the US and comes in 77- and 65-in screen sizes. They retail for $19,999 and $7,999, respectively.
