Japanese carmaker Mazda has applied its Kodo design philosophy to two new artworks. The firm has unveiled its Bike by Kodo and Sofa by Kodo concepts as part of Milan Design Week. The designs seek to portray the "effortless and powerful" movement of wild animals.

Mazda is one of a number of carmakers that has designed bikes, including BMW and Mercedes.

The Bike by Kodo concept is said to be a reimagining of the modern racing bicycle. The frame is formed from a single piece of hammered steel, while the saddle is made of leather and is hand-stitched with the same red thread used in the new Mazda MX-5.

The Sofa by Kodo concept is likened more to Mazda's new CX-3 model. Designed in partnership with Italian furniture makers, it's said to blend refined sensibilities, fine Italian craftsmanship and a strong stance.

The concepts are on show at the Mazda Design: The Car as Art event, along with a number of other works. The event opens in Milan, Italy, today.
