McLaren has announced the first model to be launched in its upcoming Sports Series of cars. The 570S Coupé will be a V8-powered two-seater with a carbon fiber structure, and will debut at the New York International Auto Show next week.
According to McLaren, the the 570S Coupé will mark the first time that the company has offered its race-derived technologies in a sports car. The firm promises high levels of performance, handling and driving dynamics, with the Coupé kicking out 570 PS (562 hp), as indicated by its name. It also has a flying buttress design to optimize aerodynamics and downforce.
McLaren says that its Sports series will "challenge beliefs and turn thinking upside down." Its teaser campaign riffs on a "black swan" analogy. How this will ultimately translate remains to be seen, other than in McLaren's assertion that the new family of cars will bring "pure McLaren credentials to a whole new market."
The Sports Series will complete a three-tier hierarchy for McLaren, with each Sports Series model sharing its DNA with the Super Series and Ultimate Series.
Additional information about the 570S Coupé is limited, as too are photos, but McLaren says more details will be released next week.
