Mitsubishi's Concept GR-HEV combination a sedan interior and comfort levels with a diesel-hybrid pickup truck with an exterior quite unlike anything we've previously seen. The hybrid drivetrain is billed as a next generation drive system that combines the company's Super Select 4WD (SS4) and S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) systems, a 2.5L diesel engine and an electric motor of unspecified power to achieve CO2 emissions of 149 g/km.

The SS4 drive mode system allows the driver to select four drive modes (2H, 4H, 4HL, 4LL) so drivers can choose the appropriate ratio range for their purposes – from a longer set of ratios for fuel-efficient driving through three sets of ratios suitable for a range of terrains.

The GR-HEV is also fitted with an AC power supply system, effectively adding some very useful functionality for those who might use it as a working vehicle, or for charging the batteries on boats, and other recreational toys.

There's no doubt the styling of the vehicle will set it apart from all others in the class and it will be interesting to see how the public reacts to the vehicle – it is quite possible that the radical styling of the GR-HEV will create a cult following, and perhaps even much more than that.

If the reaction is strongly positive, you may be looking at the next Triton, or perhaps even a new and very practical niche vehicle.

This is an excellent design. Some enthusiasts however would say the vehicle is bit low, but this platform needs to also fit into a city lifestyle, singe 90% will never see dirt. As such the only logical conclusion is to add adjust lift, either pneumatically, or through an airbag suspension system (or both)

Useless as a truck. Any truck should have a bed that can handle full 4x8' sheets of plywood. Put a top on that dinky back end and call it what it is, an SUV. If it's another parallel hybrid the tech is even useless.

Max, most Camaros will haul full sheets of plywood with the glass open. Been there, done that. It's not meant to take the place of an F-150. Kudos for Mitsu for thinking outside the box. It's like a great vehicle, and well thought out.
Of course if you needed full sheets of plywood, a simple trailer would do that on most vehicles.

Can't carry enough cargo to be useful as a truck. Can't hide your belongings in the back like a SUV. Looks like a Subaru Brat.
Why?

Bring it. My Subaru Baja is 10 years old. Performing well, but hardly anything lasts forever. 4'x8' sheets of anything are not a factor for me.

Hey, I like it! I have no idea why, but I do. I agree that it's more of an SUV than a pickup, but I'll bet the Subaru Baja and crowd will swoop on it, too. It certainly can fill a niche or two. C'mon, Mitsubishi, PRODUCE IT! I want to see specs, too. Is that lid removable It needs a rack to store it on top of the cab so you can haul tall goodies in the tail.

Great concept! Not everyone wants or needs a full-size pickup, even in the USA. Reminds me of a different take on Toyota's A-BAT concept from a few years ago. One of the great innovations of Toyota's version was that by folding down the rear seats and using a slide-out bed extender, you actually could carry the aforementioned 4x8' plywood sheet, when you need it, but you can drive a more reasonably sized vehicle when you don't. I hope more manufacturers realize that this just makes a lot more sense for most people.
Build it, Mitsubishi! And bring it to the USA!

am i missing something, or is this like the third or fourth review of an electric or hybrid vehicle with no mileage specs in the last few days?
