Ever since the release of Lamborghini’s limited edition $4.3 million Veneno earlier this year, rumors of a topless version have been growing. This week Lamborghini turned rumor into reality with the announcement of its most expensive supercar to date – the $5.3 million Veneno roadster.

Unveiled just this past March the 750 hp, AWD carbon fiber supercar was met with much acclaim, and criticism, both for its outlandish design (even for a Lamborghini) and its US $4.1 million price tag. While the point may be moot when talking about such astronomical prices, collectors willing to face the $1.2 million jump in cost for the convertible might find some consolation in the fact that topless models have historically retained value better that their hard topped counterparts over the long run.

According to Lamborghini, the Roadster will make 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of of 355 km/h (220 mph), although wind noise and hair product competency could become problematic. Only nine topless Venenos will be produced, making it slightly less exclusive than the original which had a total run of three.

Production of the Veneno Roadster will begin in 2014 and sold at a price of €3.3 million Euros (US$5.3 million).

As long as I am expressing a preference for a car I can't possibly afford. MAKE MINE A RIMAC. Good greif a 24 Year Old in Croatia has designed a super car you won't look silly in ,and that can go from your garage to the neighbors without an entourage. And apparently they will be built. Not like the crappy looking Duesenberg with a squirly looking motor.

There will be example after example of this sort of thing. Guys with far too much money, no talent and no ability to discern making this sort of purchase.
What a hideous thing Lamborghini is doing... at least it is an open deceit.

It's a ongoing mystery, why it is, that, with these multi-million dollar cars, where only 10 or fewer are made, there are people that object to the existence of these projects. Don't they understand, that if you create a millon dollar+ auto, it's essentially a private matter. That there are people that enjoy, look forward to, and can afford such projects, is no more objectionable, or unaccountable, than that they can purchase 10 million dollar homes, or million dollar paintings, etc.

There seems to be an influence of the Transformers here. I see a lot of autobot features incorporated into the car.

I will have to agree with John P. At this level, any criticism is merely uninformed jealousy. As a person of means, my transport choices are more personal than practical, but in the end, art is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, I'll admit that I would rather add another vintage Ferrari to my stable long before considering this abomination of geometric form...

Obviously I have ordered two, in case one gets damaged while I am patrolling Gotham. Slower than my other cars but I loved the colour.

Wow! Marginally better acceleration than a Tesla. That's got to be worth the extra $5.2 mill.
