The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best identifies the world’s most exceptional classic car from a select group of vehicles that have won the highest awards at the previous year’s major concours events. The 2022 award finalists have now been announced.

An American car has won the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the world's oldest and most traditional automotive concours.

The Villa d'Este is a celebrated 16th-century villa which, since 1929, has been the venue for a world-renowned annual automotive beauty contest – the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The 2021 event, as usual, provided a feast for the senses.

Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este has been held annually at the palatial 16th-century villa on Lake Como since 1929.​ As a setting for a celebration of automotive heritage, there could be no finer location, as the former royal residence is world-renowned for its terraced Renaissance gardens.​

The world's best concours car is generally attributed to the winner of the Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award, which this 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B​ won in February. In 2018 it won the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance​, and now it has taken 'best in show' at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este​

BMW Motorrad showed a "Concept R18" motorcycle at Concorso d'Elegenza Villa d'Este that appears to be the first shot in an offensive on Harley-Davidson and Indian territory. It is the first glimpse of many new bikes expected to be based around the 1800cc twin-cylinder engine.

A Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic has won the 2017 Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award in Paris. The defacto world championship for concours cars, the award pits the winning cars from the eight most important concours events in the world each year, creating an annual champion of champions.

New classes for the Concorso di Motociclette Villa d'Este motorcycle beauty pageant are often conjured up from areas where most concours organizers fear to tread. This year the eccentric category choices all offered an opportunity to celebrate different aspects of transportation heritage.

The press release touts Concorso d'Elegenza Villa d'Este as "the world's most exclusive beauty contest for historic automobiles and motorcycles," a statement which reflects the small number of elite vehicles chosen for display each year. This year just 51 cars and 41 motorcycles competed.
