Elon Musk's Hyperloop is making actual progress, with a startup company, Hyperloop Technologies, raising $8.5 million and another $80 projected for later this year. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies has 170 crowdsourced employees, while Musk himself has pledged to build a test track in Texas.

Local Motors recently ran a design challenge for an exploratory sports car. The challenge asked participants to focus on aesthetics, performance, affordability and the connection between driver and machine. Over 200 submission were received and the winning design was announced last week.
