A relationship with the Prancing Horse marque that stretches back to 2003 has seen Acer release a range of Ferrari branded products including the Ferrari 4000 Carbon Fiber notebook and the Ferrari F-20 LCD display. At Computex 2010 this week the company is showing off the latest devices including the Acer Liquid E Ferrari special edition smartphone.
Acer Liquid E Ferrari special edition smartphone
Sporting a glossy casing in the distinctive Ferrari red the Acer Liquid E Ferrari special edition boasts a 3.5-inch, 480 x 800 pixel, capacitive touchscreen on the front and the famous Scuderia Ferrari shield on the back. The phone's 512MB of internal memory is packed with Ferrari-themed content including videos, pictures and ringtones of the Ferrari engine to help users personalize the device. The memory can also be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD slot.
The 3G HSDPA phone is powered by an 8250 768MHz Snapdragon processor and runs on the Android 2.1 OS. Other features include a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and geo-tagging, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth (v2.0 with A2DP), 3.5mm audio jack, A-GPS support and a proximity sensor for auto turn-off. The battery should be good for up to 400 hours standby or up to 5 hours talk time without refueling. The phone also comes with a Ferrari-branded Bluetooth headset to let you display your allegiance at all times.
The phone measures 115mm x 64mm x 12.75mm (H x W x D) and weighs 135g. Pricing for the phone has yet to be announced.
Ferrari One notebook
We all know that red makes things go faster (and Ferrari red makes them faster again), but the AMD Athlon X2 dual-core L310 processor and AMD M780G chipset housed inside the notebook’s Ferrari red casing will probably help too. Base model specs include 512KB L2 cache, 2GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM, 160GB HDD and AMD’s HyperTransport 3.0 technology featuring ATiRadeon HD Graphics.
The Ferrari One notebooks come with 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate pre-installed and feature an exclusive Ferrari desktop with Ferrari themed screensavers, wallpaper, calendars and themes designed to Ferrari-ize the 11.6-inch, 1366 x 768 resolution widescreen LED backlit display. The notebooks also feature a dedicated key that launches a web browser and connects to the Ferrari website – other computers know this as the F10 key.
Other features include 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, built-in Acer Crystal Eye webcam and microphone, Dolby Home Theater v3, multi-gesture touchpad, Acer DynaVivid Graphics Dock support, and rubber supports shaped in the form of Formula 1 tires – presumably you won’t have to rub these back and forth to warm them up before they provide some grip. The Acer Ferrari One notebook is available from the online Ferrari Store from 650 euro (approx. US$794)
Ferrari F-22 LCD display
Although it’s been available for over a year, Acer was also displaying the 22-inch F-22 LCD display featuring 1680 x 1050 resolution at Computex 2010. Its glossy black bezel is offset with Ferrari-red highlights and a buttonless design that hand the setting adjustment task over to Acer’s SensorTouch OSD. The monitor boasts a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, 2 ms response time and 300 cd/m2 brightness. Connectivity options include HDMI and DVI-D with HDCP support.
