Even the most gregarious people occasionally need some alone time. Many choose garden sheds or outbuildings as their place of solitude, while others choose the spare room. But a new option has arrived in the form of Cozy Room, a personal isolation chamber that contains everything you could wish for from a man (or woman) cave.

The Japanese manufacturers of Cozy Room describe it as a "relaxation room for man and woman." Unfortunately, any thoughts of sharing some alone time together with your significant other are shattered by the fact that Cozy Room is only designed to hold one person at a time. The whole thing measures 205 x 120 cm (81 x 47 in), but that shrinks considerably when the chair is pushed in to encase the incumbent on all sides.

Cozy Room comprises a single, high-backed chair which slides into a cubicle, the back of the chair becoming the fourth wall of the square unit. Inside is a desktop for a laptop or keyboard, room to hang a TV or monitor, an LED light, a display rack for action figures, and enough drawers and shelves to store all of your favorite personal belongings.

While there are air vents enabling the inhabitant to carry on breathing, Cozy Room doesn't have air conditioning – meaning it could get really stuffy really quickly. There is also no plumbing and no built-in fridge, rather limiting the amount of time you could spend in Cozy Room in one sitting.

For those still interested, Cozy Room is available to pre-order for JPY798,000 (around US$8,000).

I like the concept but no air circulation? Perfect for those people who enjoy their own farts I guess.
The price is somewhat ridiculous as well. US$8K for something that is essentially a desk, chair and some shelves with a light.

The pictures couldn't be more ironic. Action figures on the shelves. Star Wars playing on the tube. And a bottle of scotch clearly labeled Virgin. All in a space designed for isolation.

Looks like the perfect place for a bit of rope tied around to trap a bigger sibling for a few hours. A couple of these (but not at $8K a pop) would give peace and privacy in a family situation though. I reckon a quick study of an Ikea catalogue could duplicate this for about $500 maximum - 1 study desk, 2 sets of bookshelves, a few privacy panels, 1 student gas-lift chair. Add an extension lead with a power board and that's it!

It is a little bit cramped compared to superman's fortress of solitude ...

Not much of an "isolation chamber" when the air vets are nothing more than a few holes in the sides. At their price point it's a bit ridiculous to not at least put a couple of them at the bottom and slap some quiet 120mm computer fans, then a larger hole on the very top, allowing the warmest air to easily vent up & out.
I'm also cynically curious on where the maker dug up a non-widescreen monitor for the display. It's not exactly great marketing to use 10-yr old technology.
@Rt1583 The bottle of whiskey is not Scotch, it's bourbon, and "Virgin" is the brand name.

One cannot live in a Cosy Room, one must leave the 'Cosy' sooner or later, and be poorer in the real world as a result.
The real world is wrought by our own deeds and desires long forgotten; governed by rules that cannot be broken.
Cosy Room sounds like a possible addiction.

Perhaps it could be called 'the cubicle of solitude'. :) Looks like it would be great for someone who plays video games and wants to block out outside interference.
I agree with the other post about Ikea. I think it could be possible to go to Ikea and buy some furniture and repurpose them to create something like that for a lot less. One could possibly put in better air circulation.

Purple-Stater-Put your fans at the top exhausting the fans (pushing the air out) and you'll have even better flow.

Nice idea for gamers, but will need vent fans to allow the A/C air in. With a vent to blow PC hot air out of the structure. Being made in Japan, it might need to be built a bit larger for Americans. Eight G's is to high for a particle board box, I'm sure it can be made for much cheaper. Please post this Cozy Room in action on You Tube, thanks.
