August 23, 2005 The StressEraser is a handheld biofeedback device designed to calm the mind and relax the body at any time, anywhere. The StressEraser incorporates cutting-edge biofeedback technology to provide mental calm and physical relaxation, even during intense stress and difficult life events. The announcement was made at the 113th annual convention of the American Psychological Association, being held from August 18-21. Later this year, at the conclusion of an ongoing series of pilot tests and studies, the StressEraser will become available for purchase for US$399 on the StressEraser web site.
The manufacturers of the product, Helicor, has spent four years of research and development, and US $6.4 million in developing StressEraser.
“Our initial target markets will include health care professionals and their patients,” said Adam Forbes, Founder & CEO of Helicor. “After that, we plan to expand into consumer markets. Our long-term goals are to clear the StressEraser with the FDA for the treatment of a variety of stress-related conditions, and to obtain coverage for the StressEraser under major health insurance plans.”
“The engineering challenge was to develop a handheld self-contained biofeedback device — wires were not an option — that simultaneously monitors both the emotional state and the physiology of the user,” explained Michael Wood, Founder & Chief Science Officer of Helicor. “It took us more than four years to accomplish these objectives.”
The StressEraser provides a daily points-based system that allows each user to tailor the relaxation training to his schedule. The points-based system also allows the therapist to tailor the relaxation training homework to the individual treatment needs of the client.
