February 15, 2005 Once upon a time, if you wanted to announce your entrance into Monte Carlo, a helicopter on the back of your personal yacht would do the trick. Helicopters on the back of yachts is more common these days - having it lowered into its garage is far cooler. Another "must have" for super yachts looks to be your own personal submarine, that docks into the hull. The Hammer has more than one submarine. It also has large reconfigurable decks, so the toys can be stowed creating oodles of party space with lots of terraces over the sea, and an underwater salon with windows that start above the waterline and extend way beneath it. There are also underwater cameras that can broadcast to the many large LCD monitors throughout the vessel.

With a length of 90 meters "the Hammer" is the yacht of the future that combines it all.

Entertainment is provided thanks to the possibility to carry an enormous amount of toys. Her high tech transom gives entrance to a dry dock that gives space to them.

Folding out large balconies are creating terraces over the sea or beach clubs on the sea. Above the wheelhouse a "hammer shape" saloon with large windows turned towards the bow and the sea, give panoramic breath taking views all around.

The bow is widened like an aircraft carrier in order to have sufficient landing space for the helicopter. The helicopter can be lowered towards her garage.

The Hammer is also the ultimate yacht for exploring the world above, as well as underneath the waterline.

Onboard submarines as well as an underwater salon with windows that are starting above the waterline and are ending far underneath it and several underwater cameras will give a new dimension to yachting.

A large onboard research center helps people to understand the marvels of the sea and how to preserve them.

The propulsion of the Hammer is based on a Francis turbine. The turbine case is installed horizontally, while the transmission comes vertically over a planetary gear. It is powered by a radial diesel engine.

The water intake takes place vertically over a big flat nozzle leading the water directly into the turbine case, where it is accelerated into the outer ring and guided out over the tangent pipe.

The steering is done by turning the whole cluster (engine, gearbox and turbine) in a radial cage.

It allows turns of 90 degrees to the outside and 35 degrees to the inside relative to the longitudinal direction.

The whole cage slides on inclined rails. Consequently the clusters can be retracted for maintenance and storage.

Booth propulsion clusters are hydraulically controlled. Due to the enormous mass they are coupled to the bathing platform, which is their counterweight. By retracting the propulsions the bathing platform lowers and gives access to the tender garages.

The 20 cylinders of the engine are arranged in 2 rows. The engine is equipped with a common rail injection. The exhaust is collected in radial pipe, guided into the turbine case and released in the cavitation areas. The exhaust ring works also as a silencer. All supply systems are integrated on the cluster. Fuel comes over flexible pipes and steering comes over a data bus.

In case of fire the water of the whirlpool on top of the clusters is used for fire extinguishing.

And on a cold day the engines can heat them.

Price - priceless, but for you, US$250 Million plus

Designed by Guido de Groot, the yacht borrows from the experience of one of the most experienced superyacht designers. De Groot has also designed cars for Citroen, but it is his ability to create exquisite spaces within his yachts that set him apart.

All of the yachts on this page were designed by De Groot - the list of beautiful yachts that didn't make the cut from the pictures available was even longer.

With all that space, the Hammer is adaptable to almost any social event, from holding a very stylish party, through running an upmarket casino.

Nice for some!
