Adventure and Allwheel

The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator are the most-accessorized vehicles in the United States and are some of the most popular overlanding rigs on the planet. So when we were asked to try a from-the-dealership, ready-to-go setup from RMT Overland, we grabbed keys and took off.

There's a fine line between genius and insanity, and the Queensize Camper hopscotches over it, expanding into a four-sleeper VW van with bathroom, kitchen and dining area. If you can get over the bulky, awkward look, it's definitely more spacious and fascinating than the average VW camper.

The expedition vehicle specialists at Action Mobil are filling out their Pure lineup with an even meaner all-terrain motorhome. The new Pure 5000 Zetros climbs, crawls, splashes and maneuvers all around the world, spending blissful nights below the the starry, wide-open sky.

In showcasing off-road adventure of all shapes and sizes, this year's Abenteuer & Allrad ranged from the weird and wild to the high-tech and cutting-edge. Here we run through that gamut, everything from a mobile hunting stand atop a Puch G, to a spider-like electric off-road buggy.

The VW badge may have dominated the grilles of campers at Abenteuer & Allrad 2018, but not every camper there was a "people's car." From expanding Sprinters, to pop-top Land Cruisers, there were plenty of camping vehicles with alternative badges.

We didn't see as many Volkswagen campers as expected in the parking lot, but the other side of the Abenteuer & Allrad gate was a very different story. There was an entire tent dedicated to Volkswagen campers and plenty of other VWs scattered about the show.

This year, we made our first trip to Germany's Abenteuer & Allrad (Adventure & Allwheel) show. Most expos start when you enter the gates, but this one starts the second you step out of the car as the parking lot hosts the wildest collection of 4x4+ camping vehicles you're likely to see.

An absolute standout from our trip to this year's Adventure and Allwheel show in Germany, the Bumo module is a more natural breed of motorhome - a pine box built for living. When dropped atop a truck chassis, the Bumo is part all-terrain, off-grid expedition vehicle and part beautiful tiny home.
