Muon Tomography

Firing up the world’s most powerful laser at Romania’s Extreme Light Infrastructure Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP), a team of physicists generated a beam of high-energy particles called muons to image an object through concrete.

GPS doesn’t work as well inside buildings, underground or underwater. Now engineers in Japan have developed and tested an alternative technology that uses cosmic rays to track movement beneath a building with precision of a few meters.
