Farmers and ranchers have a lot of land to cover, and a lot of work to get done in a day. The Ryse Recon was designed with those facts in mind, as it's being made to quickly fly rural users from place to place.

Currently being developed by US startup Ryse Aero Technologies, the Recon is a personal eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft.

The company states that the final version of the vehicle will weigh less than 300 lb (136 kg), have a range of up to 25 miles (40 km), a top speed of 63 mph (101 km/h), and the ability to takeoff and land on both land and water. It will also utilize six independent propulsion systems, each one of which will in turn be powered by a removable battery pack – this means operators will be able to quickly swap depleted batteries for freshly charged spares, as needed.

According to Ryse, the Recon is designed to be easily mass-produced, inexpensive to maintain, and easy to fly. The latter will be made possible thanks to the use of artificial-intelligence-based flight algorithms, along with simplified control systems.

The aircraft's possible applications include land surveying, locating lost cattle, and soil testing. In fact, it could be configured in different fashions, depending on its intended use – a model with fixed wings for faster, more efficient forward flight may even be offered.

We're told that the company does already have a functional prototype, and will be releasing detailed specs closer to the planned commercial launch of the aircraft early next year.

Having the human unshielded at the same height at the propellers just makes be nervous, especially for a vehicle that's expecting to land and take off in rough, potentially shrubby terrain.

how come everyone puts the propeller into body chopping positions... no one puts any protection around it or ranges it above the head or in a more protected housing underneath.... I just boggles my mind...

Great concept finally an affordable(claimed to be)evtol, lets hope the low price holds true. As for the blades at passenger height:

Twin propeller aircraft blades are parallel to human passenger height so nothing new, it keeps the cg optimal.

I wonder what kind of fool would let go of the controls and stick their hands out ? I know, the kind thats a danger to himself and the public, such a person is usually banned from boarding a flight let alone controling a flying craft ;)

Why are people worried about the props? Just like a drone they stop in less than a second.

Very few aircraft have unshrouded propellers in line with the pilot's head, and you can see the pilot's grim face, he knows the hazards involved. And this landing on the water will be great fun, when the battery packs sure will get drenched in seawater, kaboom!

And how could that be used for life rescue, as there is no room for any medicare equipment of any sort?! And no ballistic parachute for resuing the vehicle/vessel/aircraft and the pilot, as he will not be able to bale out.

If the props were mounted lower, and there were shock-absorbing legs (possibly wheels) including it would much closer to a useful thing.

How about it's weight capacity? Farmer's - Rancher's are not usually 5'7" 160 lbs, tend to be bigger men 6' + & well built from working hard all day, and wear heavy tough clothing & boots

Hmm, you'd get double (or 4x) the range at a lot lower price (what is this thing's price?) on a Zero FX, which is probably nearly as much fun.
That 25 mile range will be a big crippler for sales, I'll bet.
