At a whopping 234-diagonal-inches, the touchscreen display created by Microsoft and Stereolize for last year's CeBIT may well be the biggest we've seen but it's hardly practical (or cheap) enough for everyday use. If you're looking for something that won't require museum visitors or business customers to reach up way above their heads to even touch the screen, New Mexico's interactive exhibit veteran Ideum has announced the release of a new 65-inch wall-mounted multitouch display called the MT65 Presenter.

The Presenter's solid state optical multitouch sensor is capable of registering up to 32 simultaneous touch points on the display's three-millimeter clear tempered glass surface, with a response time of plus/minus seven milliseconds. The 3D-capable, full 1080p HD display benefits from flicker-free FPR 3D imaging, a 178 degree viewing angle, and is said to have a 9,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 500 cd/sq m brightness at 120 Hz. It's mounted in a claimed vandal-proof housing made from aircraft-grade aluminum and cold-rolled steel.

There's an externally-mounted webcam in the center of the top bezel (with Carl Zeiss optics and a stereo microphone), and HDMI in/out, Ethernet LAN, and USB 2.0 ports to the right. An optional locking plate is also available to secure the ports.

The computing power running the show comprises an Intel Core i7 2720QM quad-core processor at 2.2GHz, 8 GB DDR3 RAM over two slots, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460 graphics with 1 GB of dedicated memory and 256 GB of solid state storage. Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless connectivity also feature. The system runs on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition (with a Linux version to follow in March), there's single button operation and switchable blue LED backlighting. Like the company's MT55 model, the new Presenter also benefits from an integrated air cooling system.

The 40 x 63 x 4-inch (1,016 x 1,600 x 101 mm), 185 pound (84 kg) MT65 Presenter is available in a number of colors and finishes for US$17,450, and comes supplied with a universal VESA wall mount. There's also a Bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad to interface with the computer system and included GestureWorks 3 software development kit and demo applications.
