When it comes to streaming music through wireless headphones or earbuds, Bluetooth's functional range may not let you roam as freely as you'd like. The MW60 headphones from Master & Dynamic address that problem via wireless antennas that are designed to reach four times farther than the industry standard.
The MW60 wireless over-ear headphones are crafted with custom 45-mm drivers, stainless steel arms, folding hinges, a stitched cowhide headband, and memory foam ear pads wrapped in lambskin leather. Users will be hard-pressed to find any bit of plastic to touch, and the durable construction is meant to withstand all sorts of wear and tear.
But what makes the MW60 more than a pretty, pricey piece of audio adornment is the 16-hour battery life and machined aluminum antenna. The battery charges through the micro USB port, which also serves to update the headphones' firmware when available. Also unlike most speakers or headphones, the Master & Dynamic MW60 incorporates the antenna as part of its exterior styling instead of tucking the wireless hardware somewhere inside.
It's this antenna design that enables the headphones to achieve a wireless distance of up to 131 ft (40 m), a reach double that of the Ultimate Ears Roll speaker and four times as much as your typical Bluetooth device. With the enhanced range, users will be able to stream music around corners and through more walls/floors at home or in offices. And if the battery happens to run out, the MW60 can continue playing music through the 3.5-mm audio cable connection.
The Bluetooth 4.1 system supports aptX for maintaining high-quality audio (with compatible devices), while multi-function buttons provide remote volume and track controls. Completing the wireless experience is the MW60's omni-directional microphone, designed to offer hands-free phone conversations and the ability to activate smartphone voice commands.
The Master & Dynamic MW60 wireless over-ear headphones are available for pre-order now for US$549, in either gunmetal/black or silver/brown colors.
