iRobot has rolled out its first entry in the world of vacuum and mopping combination robots with what it says is the most advanced system of its type, featuring a retractable mop head that swings up and out of the way.

Ever since the first iRobot Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner was introduced, successive models have offered additional features. The new Roomba j7 is particularly interesting, however, in that it uses a visible light camera to identify and avoid obstacles … such as dog and cat poop.

Designed for cleaning hard floors in high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms, iRobot's new Braava jet Mopping Robot boasts a number of automatic cleaning modes, including wet mopping, damp sweeping, and simple dusting.​

Seven years ago, iRobot unveiled the Create – an educational robot based around the platform of the company's existing Roomba vacuum-cleaning robot. Both robotics in general and the Roomba specifically have advanced since then, so it only makes sense that iRobot has now announced the Create 2.
