Photokina 2018

There's no place better in the world than Photokina if you want to completely drown yourself in the equipment, culture and business of photography. We spent a couple of days putting together this giant gallery to give you a sense of what the world's biggest camera nerd expo is all about.

Optics veteran Zeiss has hit Photokina 2018 with its first digital camera, the ZX1 concept. The full-frame mirrorless camera is designed for snapping photos, editing and sharing without any help from other devices.

​Fujifilm has had quite a busy Photokina 2018 so far, announcing a new instant camera, an upcoming projector sporting a rotating Fujinon lens and a new GFX medium format series flagship. The company also outlined plans for the development of a 100 megapixel medium format concept.​

​Fujifilm has announced a more portable version of its GFX 50S medium format mirrorless camera from last year. The 50R has essentially the same internals as its predecessor, all squeezed into a rangefinder style body. But Fujifilm has taken the opportunity to include a few modest upgrades.​

​In the last few weeks, both Canon and Nikon have joined Sony and Leica at the full-frame mirrorless camera party. Now Panasonic has jumped into the fray with the Lumix S series, tapping Leica for some lens mount help along the way.​

​Ricoh's point-and-shoot GR series started life as 35 mm film cameras in 1996, went digital in 2005, got a sensor bump in 2013 and Wi-Fi in 2015. Now the company has announced it's developing the next generation GR and will offer Photokina 2018 show-goers a sneak peek ahead of release in 2019.​
