While we've seen a number of electric scooters and ebikes that are made to look like classic cafe racer motorcycles, the Buzzsaw Boss Hog Chopper e-scooter is a bit different. As its name implies, it's inspired by big mean ol' custom chopper cycles – just don't try taking it to your local biker bar.

Manufactured by Pennsylvania-based startup Jigsaw Electronics, the Buzzsaw features a distinctive one-piece tubular metal frame, along with doo-dads such as front and rear suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, full LED lighting, aluminum alloy wheels with puncture-resistant tubeless tires, and an LED dashboard that displays data such as speed and battery charge level.

The bit that you see on the bottom contains the removable 60-V/30-Ah lithium battery pack, which powers the scooter's 3,000-W brushless rear hub motor. One four- to six-hour charge should reportedly be good for a range of up to 50 miles (80 km) – the Buzzsaw's top speed is 50 mph.

The whole thing is claimed to tip the scales at 198 lb (90 kg), and can carry a maximum load of 450 lb (204 kg).

Should you want one for yourself, it's currently the subject of an Indiegogo campaign. Assuming it reaches production, a pledge of US$1,140 will get you one – the planned retail price is $1,900.

You can see the Buzzsaw Boss Hog Chopper in action, in the video below.

So what happens to your money if they don't go into production after October 24th you just enriched Indiegogo?

This looks way too good to be $1900. Is that a typo?

I'm highly suspicious of their claim of being American made with a 3000 watt motor and a 60v 30ah battery for $1,100. That price wouldn't even cover the cost of the battery alone. Despite significant media coverage they have 0 backers on Indiegogo and that's probably for the best.

Who buys these things that cannot go over 50 mph, 50 mile range, and is light enough to steel like the scooters in downtown areas? Every road in the Midwest has speeds of 70+ mph and 40 miles at least between gas stations on the highway. If it is for in town only you have to put all your groceries or books in a backpack. Where is the charging cord?

The promotional materials on Indiegogo say the motor has a "super long life" of 3-5 years. Having owned a cheap scooter before, that short life span is not worth the investment. You can't sell it when it dies, and you will regret having it in your garage.

not sure what it is, but it looks a bit anemic.. just a bit less hung than you'd want it to be, I guess that's why they manned up rugged up the dude.. it still leaves a bit an anemic bike... normally choppers are used to compensate for shortcomings in other areas... so I am not sure if this bike fits that bill when it's neither loud and noisy nor impressive to look at - but to the contrary ...

I'm not a chopper fan, but calling this scooter a "chopper" is going to have gang members rolling over in their graves. Even more sacrilegious would be to apply the term "cafe racer".......

And why not? An electric bike can resemble anything. However, I just look at big fat tires and think 'rolling resistance' like we were taught in grade 8 physics, and I re-learned when I borrowed my friend's fat-tire bike. How much range does those blobs of rubber rob you of? Other than that, it looks kind of cool in a hollow way.

Now I like that!! Without the Boss Hog name which is likely illegal to use that way, bikers would love it.

"The Buzzsaw's top speed is 50 mph." - for $1,140 that's acceptable I guess, but I wouldn't attempt quarter miles race trials against other bikes !
