There are a great number of multi-tools out there that feature a Philips head screwdriver tip for tightening and loosening screws, but Brian Filko has had enough of all of them. The Pennsylvania-based mechanical engineer has crafted an everyday carry that features a dynamic ratchet, so you can keep right on cranking when working in tight spaces.

Dubbed EverRatchet, the keychain multi-tool actually has 20 tools in its arsenal. On it you'll find a box opener, bottle opener, scraper, flathead screwdriver, seven static wrenches, a wire stripper, 30- and 45-degree protractors and imperial and metric rulers.

But the most innovative feature is the clever little quarter-inch ratchet driver in its center. A Philips #2 screwdriver bit slides snugly through the hole and then remains locked in place by a thin beam as the tool is rotated.

But EverRatchet is engineered so that when it is spun back the other way, that same beam flexes just enough to let the tool rotate without bringing the bit along with it. To use it to loosen rather than righten screws, it can simply be flipped over.

EverRatchet is available in stainless steel or titanium, weighing 20 g (0.7 oz) and 12 g (0.4 oz), respectively. It measures 2.4 x 0.7 x 0.2 inches (6.1 x 1.8 x 0.5 cm) and comes with a #2 Philips bit and fire flint included, both of which can be secured inside its frame with a pair of removable storage bands.

Filko is running an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the production of EverRatchet and is well on his way, with $US14,00 raised at the time of writing after setting out to raise a humble $3,200. A pledge of $16 will land you a stainless steel version in September if the campaign runs as planned, while titanium versions call for a pledge of $21.

You can check out the pitch video below.

Finally, a little POS EDC tool which is =not= a POS! If the ratchet works under severe loads, it would be incredibly handy.
