Nokia's sleek new handset offerings
May 8, 2008 Nokia has unveiled three new mobile handsets - one folding and two sliding units - ahead of a planned release in the third quarter of 2008. With an emphasis on compact, minimalist design, the Nokia 6600 fold, the Nokia 6600 slide and the Nokia 3600 slide also boast some clever (if not completely ground-breaking) functionality aimed at making the phones easier to use. Putting the 6600 to "sleep" to reject incoming phone calls, for example, is achieved by tapping the cover of the twice and the same convenient process is used to "wake" the handset up again. The more distinctive charcoal and wine colored 3600 slide is also the first Nokia product to feature background noise cancellation.
Nokia 6600 foldKey features of the 110 gram Nokia 6600 fold include a smooth, electromagnetic one-touch opening mechanism, 16 million color, 2.13'' OLED screen, hidden outer display, integrated 2 megapixel camera with double LED flash, VGA video recording at 15fps with video call support, 18MB on-board memory with support for up to a 4GB microSD card, plus 4 hours talk time and more than 12 days standby time. Available in black, the 6600 fold has an estimated retail price of 275 EUR.
Nokia 6600 slideAt 93 mm x 45 mm x 14 mm (L x W x H) and weighing 100 grams, Nokia calls the 660 slide one of its smallest sliding designs date. It shares many of the features of its folding counterpart with the exception of a higher-res 3.2 megapixel camera and a marginally larger screen. The phone also features an integrated Nokia Maps application with an optional Nokia Bluetooth GPS Module LD-4W that enables Bluetooth navigation outside the car. The Nokia 6600 slide has an estimated retail price of 250 EUR. Nokia 3600 slideAs mentioned the Nokia 3600 slide is the company's first product to feature background noise cancellation. Lighter than the 6600 handsets at just over 97 grams, the unit features a built-in music player and FM radio, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and 2 LED flash, a TV-out feature for connection to most television sets, pre-installed Nokia Maps application with an optional Nokia Bluetooth GPS Module LD-4W and 30MB built-in memory with support for up to a 4GB microSD card. The Nokia 3600 slide has an estimated retail price of 175 EUR.
