A team of engineering students at Rice University is developing a haptic glove that allows gamers to touch and grip virtual objects as though they are real. The work is being sponsored by gaming technology company Virtuix, and is envisioned for use in combination with other VR technologies.

Twin-fuselage Carplane prototype makes public debut
Many flying car designs are under development, but they've all been hung up on the compromises between plane and car. Carplane hopes to square the circle with a twin-fuselage roadable monoplane that made its first public appearance at the recent AERO show in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

BAE System's CV90 armor vehicle uses F1 racing suspension technology
BAE Systems has announced that it's taken an active damping suspension designed for F1 cars and adapted it for Sweden's Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90). Billed as a world's first for a tracked vehicle, the upgrade is claimed to improve battlefield speed and handling.

Hall ion thrusters to fly on X-37B spaceplane
When the unmanned X-37B mission lifts off from Cape Canaveral AFB on May 20, it will be carrying a Hall thruster as part of an experiment to improve the design for use on Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) military communications spacecraft.

New heat-recovery system makes Stanford one of world’s most energy-efficient uni's
A new campus renewable energy system at Stanford University, known as SESI, uses a first-of-its-kind heat recovery system, while drawing a substantial percentage of its electricity from solar. Greenhouse gas emissions will be cut by 68 percent and fossil fuel use cut by 65 percent.
