As computer games and graphics head quickly towards highly-detailed realism, we can expect some pretty interesting computer peripherals to be built in coming decades. The genre of computer game which almost everyone can relate to is driving/racing a car plus there's a whole generation of fans out there who absorb every detail of the sport it is emulating - accordingly, car racing is the realism genre which has had the most attention from game developers, and is now so realistic that many genuine elite-level racers learn new circuits prior to setting wheel on them by playing the official games for that particular franchise of racing, such a Formula One, V8 Supercars or MotoGP. Every competitor, car, corner, braking area, trackside marquis ad infinitum is true in detail.

When the vision is so real, you don't need to add much to simulate incredible realism in car racing, and that's why we're so keen on the new AUD$10,000 computer gaming peripheral, Serious Racing Pro.

The Serious Racing Pro is the ultimate gaming peripheral - a racing cell with an accurately-styled F1 cockpit, an adjustable length force-feedback steering wheel with your choice of stick-shift or F1 style paddle shift, adjustable pedal position, an authentic racing seat that gives a realistic driving position and if you really want to go the whole hog, the chassis comes with mounting points for a full race harness.

Inside, the car is more luxuriously appointed than your average F1 car, being fully trimmed and embroidered, though it must be said that was only the version we sampled, and there are many options - if you want the authentic spartan F1 cabin, it's available, including an array of carbon fibre inserts and instrument panel.

The interior decorating doesn't end there - dashboard and footwell lighting are available, and a variable speed cooling fan comes as standard. This is one of the most significant improvements over other driving pods we've seen - when you drive one of these cars without the fan, things tend to get very hot in the cabin, which seriously detracts from having fun.

To complete the realism, there are two under-seat rumblers and a 5.1 surround sound stereo system which can be dialed in for as much realism as you can handle. It works with either a Sony PlayStation 2 or PC, and can be plugged into a projecto/TV, or a flat Screen TV can be mounted on the nose.

From order to delivery takes four to five weeks, depending on how much customization is required, as each car is made to specific order. Pricing starts at AUD$7,500 and goes as far as you wish.
