Rather than send those old Kallax shelving units to landfill, you may soon be able to pocket some extra cash from Ikea. It has decided to dip a toe into the used furniture marketplace with an online platform named Ikea Preowned.

The Ikea Kreativ digital design tool lets customers scan a room using a smartphone camera, remove existing furniture and try out new products from the Swedish home furnishing giant's catalog in a virtual recreation of their living space.

At 2022 Milan Design Week, assemble-it-yourself furniture giant Ikea has announced the results of a partnership with supergroup Swedish House Mafia to create a new product line for music production in the home, including a boxy record player.

Ikea has teamed up with Sonos to add another product to the Symfonisk range that debuted in 2019 with a table lamp/speaker combo and a standalone streaming speaker. This time the collaboration has merged a picture frame with a Wi-Fi speaker.

A new Ikea store planned for Copenhagen will feature a public rooftop park along with the usual selection of flatpack furniture. Designed by Dorte Mandrup, it will also boast significant energy efficient design, including a solar panel array.

Ikea has joined forces with tiny house firm Escape to produce a tiny house on wheels. Appropriately named the Ikea Tiny Home Project, the 187-sq-ft model is filled with Ikea products and can run off-the-grid thanks to roof-based solar panels.

Ikea offers another example of the greenery-covered architecture trend with its recently-revealed store planned for Austria. A departure from the bland warehouses often associated with the furniture giant, it will be covered in around 160 trees.

Last month, Ikea and teenage engineering launched the Frekvens collection of lighting and speaker modules. Now teenage engineering has added a bunch of CAD files to the mix so that owners can print off some nifty hacks.

More than two years ago, Ikea announced a collaboration with Sweden's teenage engineering to develop a range of lighting and speaker modules. The limited edition Frekvens collection will now go on sale from February.

IKEA's new Råvaror series will include a collection of everyday furniture pieces that are specifically designed for small spaces, with the added bonus of being easily dismantled, packed, moved and re-assembled.
