Twenty five years ago this year, Victorinox branched out from the manufacture of Swiss Army knives into watchmaking, and to celebrate the occasion the iconic company is launching a limited Titanium edition of its Dive Master 500 divers watch. The new watch brings a mechanical chronograph movement to the collection, and features a generous helping of luminous markers in two different colors.
Victorinox says that its Dive Master 500 range has been demonstrated as being robust, reliable and functional, and further states that the watches are ranked among the most reliable in their class.
The Dive Master 500 Titanium anniversary edition chronograph is limited to a production run of just 500 pieces. It has a 43 mm (1.7 in) case in Grade II Titanium that's been sandblasted matte gray, a design feature that's continued through to the Titanium bracelet, and its ETA 2894-2 mechanical self-winding movement is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case backing.
There's a monochrome gray Titanium dial under a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The hands and indexes, flange on the right side, the 20-minute zone, and the contours of the counters at the 6 and 9 o'clock positions have all been given a dose of luminous material. The 20-minute scale on the unidirectional rotating bezel has also been similarly treated, though showing blue instead of the green glow from the other indicators.
As the name suggests, the Dive Master 500 is water resistant to up to 500 meters (1,650 ft), and features protected screw down crown and push buttons. The date window sits between the 4 and 5 o'clock markers, and a helium valve has been included at the 9 o'clock position in the middle of the case.
The Dive Master 500 Titanium edition will be available from mid-2014.
