New York Auto Show 2018

The NY Auto Show kicked off last week and is in high gear. A veritable SUV show, the annual expo has been filled out by SUV debuts from manufacturers around the world while also including generous helpings of electric powertrains, playful concept cars, pickup trucks and high-performance technology.

As it moves closer to a fully electric car, Mini is having some fun with electricity. It's added battery power to a classic Cooper for NYIAS 2018, where it's also showing a different electrified model. The Mini Countryman Panamericana will embark on a journey from Texas to the tip of South America.

Cadillac's new XT4 compact SUV represents some interesting technological milestones for the company with its all-new turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine, NFC mobile-phone pairing and electro-hydraulic braking assistance.

The Jaguar F-Pace isn't the only of the world's best-looking SUVs receiving a serious performance upgrade at this year's NY Auto Show. In fact, the Maserati Levante has gotten an even more robust performance tune, sliding it right up into Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus super-SUV territory.

The F-Pace is Jaguar's best-selling vehicle and arguably the sexiest, sportiest SUV on the road. In other words, it's begging for a range-topping SVR performance model. Jaguar realizes this as well as anyone and it's added the all-new 550-hp F-Pace SVR at the 2018 New York Auto Show.

Subaru has unveiled the new fifth generation of the Forester crossover at the New York International Auto Show. The 2019 Subaru Forester is based on the new Subaru Global Platform and showcases DriverFocus, a distracted driving prevention technology.

Kia has unveiled a new generation of the unfortunately-named K900 luxury sedan at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. The second-generation model features the engine from the much-touted Stinger, a lot of infotainment technology, and new styling, making it lower and wider.

The fledgling Genesis brand hasn't quite had its defining halo. The all-new Essentia Concept could be the missing piece of the puzzle, debuting in New York as an electrified GT that looks like it should be part of the virtual Vision Gran Turismo fleet. Only it isn't.

​Volkswagen has thrown a little more weight behind its move into the utility vehicle space following yesterday's reveal of the Atlas Cross Sport concept with the dual-cab, five-seat Tanoak concept pickup truck concept at the New York Auto Show.

Lincoln dazzled at last year's NY Auto Show with the all-new Navigator, a much sleeker, more modern interpretation of its full-size SUV. It's back in the SUV driver's seat at this year's show, this time showing a completely new utility vehicle: the mid-size Aviator.

Debuting as a new entry-level luxury performance sedan for the Genesis lineup, the G70 is billed as Genesis’ “opening salvo” into a highly-competitive segment of the US market. The G70 has a manual gearbox option, a four- or six-cylinder engine option, and will be here this summer.

Making its world debut at the New York International Auto Show, the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback adds an all-new model to the Audi Sport lineup. The five-door, five-seat performance sedan becomes a 444 horsepower option for Volkswagen’s luxury brand.
