A new train station in the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung will be the centerpiece of a larger transport hub that will boast a huge swathe of new public space and knit together the local area. Kaohsiung Station will cover an area of 8.5 ha (21 ac) and boast a 35,000-sq m (376,700-sq ft) green canopy.

New designs for the planned Tainan Public Library in Taiwan show a top-heavy building with its uppermost floor wrapped in a decorative second skin. The configuration of the building increases its perimeter at each level, creating a canopy, while the additional skin helps to regulate temperature.

Zaha Hadid Architects has been declared the winner of an international competition to design a new bridge in Taipei, Taiwan. Set for location at the mouth of the Tamsui River, ZHA says that Danjiang Bridge will be the longest single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge in the world once complete.
