Since coming to market with its biomass-burning, electricity-generating stove, BioLite has been growing its line of multifunctional outdoor charging solutions. Additions have included the upsized BaseCamp and the NanoGrid campsite lighting system. Now BioLite launches a super-compact dual-purpose charging solution, the new PowerLight Mini. It works as a pocket-sized lantern and USB charger.
The standard PowerLight launched as a component of the NanoGrid last year. The Mini provides a slimmer, lighter alternative that you can drop in your pocket. It weighs just 2.82 oz (80 g) and measures 3.4 x 2 x 0.6 in (85 x 51 x 15 mm).
In place of typical bulky lantern components, Biolite uses an edge-lit panel that relies on its proprietary texture to distribute light evenly. This construction cuts weight and size, and provides a soft, even glow of up to 135 lumens. The light includes four modes: white lantern mode with dimming function, red night light, maximum visibility white point light and strobe.
The built-in 1,350-mAh lithium-ion battery can keep the LEDs shining for up to five hours on high or 52 hours on low. It can also give your mobile phone a backup boost through the USB output.
Other features include a stainless steel housing; a wire hanger that lets you hang the Mini over your campsite, stand it on a table or secure it to a chest pocket; and an included bike mount that turns lantern into bike safety light.
The PowerLight Mini launched this week for US$44.95 and is available in four colors.
