Not long ago, Porsche showed off an inexplicable new pop-top roof camper for its 911 supercar. Now, it's sent a pair of offroad-prepped 911s up the side of the world's highest volcano in Chile for some equally inexplicable high-altitude testing.

Porsche has announced that the concept study 911 Speedster, shown in June for the company's 70th anniversary, is now going into production. It will be a limited-edition open-top two-seater designed in homage to the company's first car, the 356 Model 1.

Porsche has looked back to its 1968 911 T for a reimagined 911 Carrera T for 2018. This model has a better drive dynamic through drivetrain changes and performance enhancements that aren't available on the standard 2018 911 version. It will also be the lightest model in the 911 Carrera range.
