SylvanSport has long lurked as an outlier in the RV world. For years, its primary offerings were skeletal gear-hauling tent trailers unlike virtually anything else on the market. It then leaped from that compact, lightweight low-rider style straight to launching one of the boldest, boxiest campers of its class in the expandable Vast. Now it's circling back to fill in some of the sprawling space in between, launching the all-new Vire trailer as a camper that's just as boxy as the Vast but smaller and simpler. The new camper packs everything you need for a great weekend in the wild, without anything to complicate the trip.

It's long been a tenet of the tent industry that the more vertical the walls, the more usable livable volume you enjoy. Sure, you could angle those walls outward for more volume up high, but then you're losing the accompanying floor area that would make that volume useful – so you'd be better off pushing the floor out to the same dimensions as the roof ... right back to vertical walls.

The downside is that vertical walls work like a big bullseye for wind, making the tent noisier and less stable in bad weather.

A hard-walled residence or camper isn't subject to the same wind effects, so vertical walls are free to bring their space-maximizing advantages without as much downside. The typical travel trailer often pairs vertical wall surfaces with some sort of curvaceous aerodynamic sculpting – at least at the front-end – but this sculpting can negatively cut into the living space, leading to things like tapered shield-shaped master beds or less headroom.

SylvanSport's strategy is clearly to maximize living space through uninterrupted vertical-walled construction, to hell with curvaceous streamlined aerodynamics. Actually that last bit isn't entirely true as it does secure a slightly curvy front fairing over top what looks to be a vertical front wall, improving aerodynamics over what would otherwise be a literal wind wall.

You may or may not notice some extra cost at the pumps along the way in comparison to slipperier trailers, but you'll definitely notice the space increase when it comes to setting up the front near-king bed, which doesn't have to squeeze into an aero-optimized nose a la this near-triangular bed. The bed stretches into a comfy 72 x 80-in (183 x 203-cm) form you'll be happy to sleep in night after night, especially after a particular tiring day. A restful night's sleep is what separates a great tomorrow of leading the adventure from a rough day of barely tagging along.

The Vire is comparably boxy to the Vast, but at 19.5 feet (5.9 m) long it's about 2 feet (61 cm) shorter. SylvanSport, then, relinquishes the Vast's onboard gear storage capabilities, focusing instead on carrying fear outside the cabin. There's no rear hatch, and campers enter instead through an entry door on the rear right side.

Owners can still bring their bikes along, they'll just have to secure them to a rack on the available hitch receiver. Kayaks find home on the left sidewall, where J carriers can secure to the airline-grade tie-down tracks running the the trailer's height.

SylvanSport has simplified the design of the Vire in comparison to the Vast, so instead of a sliding indoor/outdoor kitchen/bathroom area, the unit houses a fixed floor plan with a small, neat kitchen block just inside the entryway and a wet bath in the rear corner. The kitchen comes outfitted with a dual-burner gas stove with grates, rectangular sink with fold-down faucet and cutting board worktop, available microwave/convection oven/air fryer combo, vented hood and storage cabinetry and drawers. The 12-V fridge is located diagonally to the main kitchen, on the wall behind the bathroom.

The bathroom features a wet bath layout with a shower floor, space-saving folding sink and cassette toilet.

Beyond edging closely to a full residential king bed, the front lounge quickly transforms into a dining area with wraparound sofa bench. Remove the table and it's a roomy living room-like lounge space for reading, relaxing and watching the available TV.

SylvanSport classifies the insulated laminated composite outer walls as four-season-ready, and a Truma Combi furnace/water heater combo comes as standard equipment. A Truma air conditioner and two Maxx-Air fans also come as part of both standard equipment packages.

The electrical kit is the main differentiator separating the US$59,995 "Turn" base model and $69,995 "Ultimate" flagship. The former relies on a single 166-Ah LFP battery for powering up onboard systems, whereas the Ultimate multiplies capacity out to 833 Ah. Similarly, the base model includes solar prewiring but no panels, while the Ultimate packs a 600-W solar charging setup. The larger electrical system powers the microwave and TV that come standard on the Ultimate but not the Turn.

Both models feature a color touchscreen control panel for managing onboard hardware and are prepped for Starlink satellite internet.

The Vire's base weight starts at 3,670 lb (1,665 kg) before filling up the 151-L fresh water tank and getting started loading up to 1,330 lb (603 kg) of payload. A combination of Dexter torsion axles and 225/75R15 tires give it the trailer just under 10.8 in (27 cm) of ground clearance.

Sylvansport introduced the Vire this month and is offering Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 production slots for a $1,000 deposit.
